Common Core in the STEM Classroom

While science classes are embracing exploration and hands-on experiences, there is also an important role for reading—especially reading beyond the textbook. Non-fiction trade books, magazines, and newspaper stories bring scientists and scientific research to life for students, letting them share the exciting process of discovery, and see the relevance of science to their lives. Also, carefully selected science literature fulfills Common Core language arts standards for the inclusion of “informational texts.” In this vlog, we explain that “informational” shouldn't mean boring and share some great literature that just happens to be about science.
