BioBlitz: Citizen Science

In this clip from David Shaw's Second Century Stewardship, join park staff, entomologists, and teachers for a citizen science activity called a BioBlitz in Acadia National Park. They'll be hunting for examples of hymenoptera and myriapods to take back to the park's lab, where they can be counted, sorted, and compared with the park's historic collection.


This video highlights the importance of citizen science participation in BioBlitzes (in this case in collecting specimens for study and historical comparison) and the excitement of getting out into the field with scientists doing that research. Consider incorporating it into the following lessons:
