One of the weirdest creatures found at the 2011 BioBlitz is the tardigrade, or water bear. In this video, a student from Baker University (which is a hotbed of water bear research!) discusses tardigrades and their unique features.
Of interest to biology students is the fact that tardigrades are so different from all other forms of life that they have their own phylum—that's one of broadest categories of life. In fact, because they are so unique, and because they can survive space travel in their dried up, hibernating state, some people have suggested that water bears might come from another world!
