This site contains information about a free town hall-style event on understanding the science behind obesity and childhood nutrition that took place at the 2008 AAAS Annual Meeting in Boston, Massachusetts. There are several resources on this site, including a video on understanding childhood obesity and nutrition, videos with comments from leading health and nutritional experts on childhood obesity, and a video demonstration of a new, fitness-oriented learning game for young people called Smartfoot.


For Educators

This resource is a good place for you to get more information about what is being done in the area of childhood obesity and nutrition. You can watch the videos on the site or you can access various PDF documents or PowerPoints of the presentations that were given at the town hall event.

You also may be able to use some resources on the site with your students. One such resource is the video, Understanding Obesity and Childhood Nutrition. This video highlights one community’s actions to decrease childhood obesity. It can be used to help students build important health literacy skills, such as understanding important preventative health measures; understanding basic health information with a goal towards utilizing it to make appropriate health decisions; and understanding national and international public health and safety issues.
