Monster Bugs

You will have fun making your own virtual bug at the Monster Bugs section of The Magic Schoolbus website. You can select from various wings, legs, and heads to create a virtual bug. As you click on a specific part, information is provided on it. You can create a picture of an actual bug found in nature or you can put together parts from different bugs to create a fantasy creature.

For Educators

The bugs that students make could be printed out and mounted on tag paper or cardboard for various activities; for example, students could sort and classify by attribute and by "monster bug"/real bug. To reinforce ideas in the Models benchmarks, be sure to discuss with students how their virtual bugs are like the real thing and how they are different.
