Use this sheet and information from Ricky’s Atlas to help you make a scaled map of the area you want to monitor.
Setting up a transect or transects on your school grounds is one way to establish a monitoring program. Keep in mind, these transects you are setting up now may be used by other classes in the future. Therefore, it is important for you to make a scaled map of the area you are monitoring. You can consult pages 22-23 in Ricky’s Atlas to learn more about scaling up. You also want to draw your transect location(s) on a map and provide instructions for finding your transects so that you or anyone reading your instructions can easily locate them.
In the space below, pencil in a map of the area you or your lab group would like to monitor. Think about how the transects were used and laid out in chapters 6 and 7 of Ricky’s Atlas. Draw in transect locations on your map too.
