Introduction

You and your classmates have been talking about how science touches your life. Answer the questions about the video and then you can work with your classmates and teacher to think about examples of how science impacts certain parts of your life.

Science in My Life Video

  • Were you surprised by some of the things you saw in the video that are possible because of science?

  • What things surprised you?

  • Can you name other areas of your life that have been impacted by science? In what way?

Examples of Science in My Life

Use the table on this sheet to record examples of how science impacts your life. Come up with 3-5 examples of how science has played a role, either in the development of a product you use or as a scientific advancement/discovery that has touched your lives.

Research

Once you have listed your examples, you should narrow down the list to the three most important to you personally. Then you should choose one of these to focus on and conduct some research on that topic to address these questions:

  • Product/Discovery

  • Aspect of your lives it impacts

  • How was it developed/discovered?

  • How does science fit into its development or discovery?

Requirements for Work

After you finish your research, use what you’ve learned to create a PowerPoint presentation, a poster, or a video on the evolution of the product or discovery and how it impacts your lives.

  • PowerPoint Presentation: Should have at least 4 slides (product/discovery, aspects of your life it impacts, how it was developed/discovered, the role it plays in that aspect of your life), plus a title slide. Each slide should have an image and text with information about it
  • Poster: Should have at least 4 images on it (product/discovery, aspects of your life it impacts, how it was developed/discovered, the role it plays in that aspect of your life) with captions that explain the images. Should also include a title and your name(s).
  • Video: Short video that shows at least 4 images (product/discovery, aspects of your life it impacts, how it was developed/discovered, the role it plays in that aspect of your life). Should start with a title and have credits at the end.

Click on the Download File button at the top of this page and print out the PDF. Write or draw something to do with the science topic you researched. If you are celebrating the March for Science with your family, school, or community, you can bring this with you as a sign.
