My Awesome Summer by P. Mantis Venn Diagram Teacher Sheet

Introduction

Use this teacher sheet as a guide for helping students work through the Venn diagram and for assessing their understanding. The most common answers are provided.

Venn Diagram

First, draw a three-circle Venn diagram. Label each circle with Linear Life Cycle, Circular Life Cycle, and Hybrid Text.
Students should have three intersecting circles. You can demonstrate this on the board ahead of time.

venndiagram

In the center where all three circles intersect, write things you learned from the book, linear life cycle, AND circular life cycle.
Students should include things like what praying mantises eat and predators of praying mantises. They also should include information about how it grows and how long it lives.

In the parts where the linear life cycle and hybrid text intersect, write things you learned only from those two methods of learning about praying mantises.
Answers for this may vary depending on what the student learned from making their poster. This part of the diagram, though, should include things like how the mantis grows, what it eats, its predators, and perhaps how long it lives.

In the parts where the circular life cycle and hybrid text intersect, write things you learned only from those two methods of learning about praying mantises.
Answers for this may vary depending on what the student learned from making their poster. This part of the diagram, though, should include things like how the mantis grows, what it eats, its predators, and perhaps how long it lives. With the circular life cycle, students should get a sense of the life cycle of a mantis.

In the parts where the linear life cycle and circular life cycle intersect, write things you learned only from those two methods of learning about praying mantises.
Answers will vary for each student depending on what they learned by drawing out and labeling each type of life cycle.

In the parts of the circles representing only one method, write things you learned only from that one method of learning about praying mantises.
Answers will vary for each student.
