Top New Species of 2013

In 2013, the top ten new species list included tiny violets and frogs, a glow-in-the-dark cockroach, a blue-bottomed monkey, a paleolithic fossil, and a carnivorous, harp-shaped sponge.

Species were chosen by a committee of 11 international scientists with the International Institute for Species Exploration from nominations made by the public of species officially described as new during 2012.
