Picture Book Month

The goal of Picture Book Month is to encourage everyone to celebrate literacy with print picture books. To help achieve this goal, you can introduce your students to some of the winners of the AAAS/Subaru SB&F Prize for Excellence in Science Books. Each year, AAAS honors the best in science writing and illustration for children and young people through this prize. One of the categories reflects elite picture books in the sciences. Check out the lessons and podcasts we have developed to help incorporate these books into the classroom. Explore topics such as sibling relastionship in the animal worldhow camouflage works, how energy from the sun is necessary for life on earth, and the challenges of climate change.

Make sure you also visit SB&F to see the finalists for this year's picture book category and download a free feature on their favorite science picture books.
