Have you been celebrating Great Outdoors Month? With the month coming to a close, consider pledging to participate in the Great American Backyard Campout on June 28, sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation. There's no better way to spend time outside than to go camping, and with the Great American Backyard Campout there's an adventure to be had just steps outside your door. Whether you stay on your lot or join a group camping expedition elsewhere, this is an experience you don't want to miss!
Before you head for the great outdoors, take a look at the camping resources on the NWF website: read their important safety information on building campfires, encountering wildlife, and dealing with weather. If you haven't been camping before, make sure you've packed what you need, learn how to pitch a tent, and get information on topics like sanitation and water purification. While you're there, don't forget about camping recipes for mealtimes and classic camping games and activities!
Science NetLinks also has resources on American National Parks, including the Yellowstone Wolves and Managing the Everglades Ecosystem lessons and the Birdsong and Climate and Predators and Plants Science Updates. Finally, the BioBlitz Collection is a great place to look for resources if you're interested in wildlife observation during your campout.
