Take a few days in March to celebrate and learn about your local wildlife with National Wildlife Week, sponsored by the National Wildlife Federation. This year's National Wildlife Week theme is "Wildlife & Water: From the Mountains to the Rivers to the Oceans," and focuses on species that rely on water, either for their habitat or as a source of their diet. Over 50 species have been chosen as featured wildlife for the weeklong event.
On the NWF website, you'll find a number of relevant educational resources, including lesson plans for all grades, fact sheets and diagrams on featured wildlife, and a pre-recorded webinar. Try combining these with Science NetLinks' resources on wildlife and conservation, including the Introducing Biodiversity lesson, the Investigating Local Ecosystems lesson, the Marine Sanctuaries lesson, and the Biomes of the World tool.
In addition, the NWF has compiled a list of National Wildlife Week events happening all over the country. Do you plan to attend any events? How will you celebrate National Wildlife Week?
